I’m in the process of MOVING to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area! After cancer, Harvey, and the loss of my father, moving locations is a breeze. 😉  However, I don’t want to lose sight of what is so important this month and that is bringing awareness to understanding what ‘domestic violence’ is and the effects it can have for a lifetime.

Remember, often the ‘violence’ doesn’t erupt for years… it is mainly emotional abuse that tears down the soul, which keeps the victim in place, and then, unfortunately the violence. Below is a blog I shared a few years ago. I am re-posting because I love Victoria’s story of strength.

A lesson I’ve learned is that I have many tools in my toolbox of recovery and healing from past trauma which has made this less ‘traumatic’. It is not fun, it is frustrating, and I want nothing more than to feel the comfort and security of ‘home’ but it will not bring me down.

Who my heart goes out to are those who have not experienced trauma in their lives and are facing this type of forced destruction (the stealing of your safety and security) for the first time. Please send out a prayer for them as it is a time to turn to God and test that trust in Him.

On the news front, I want to applaud everyone who is coming forward with #MeToo… Alisa Milano was brilliant in finding this simple means of communication to finally open the flood gates (no pun intended). I’d like to think ministries such as Hopeful Hearts, RAINN, and others that help domestic violence survivors, etc have set the foundation for that one woman who spoke out against Harvey Weinstein and led the path for others to finally drop the fear and feel it was okay.

Finally, this is domestic violence awareness month and we have a new I Have a Voice video by VICTORIA. Please watch and share! Domestic violence affects the entire family – it’s time to break that generational curse. If you, or someone you know, is suffering in silence please be encouraged to reach out, speak out, and get help. You deserve better, and so does your family.
