It could be that if I were to condense this blog experiment into a book instead of titling it “Just Show Up” I’d title it “Draw Near to God” as that has been the theme running throughout these last 306 days. We are coming up on the end of this experiment quick and headed towards my most favored day – New Year’s. I enjoy New Year’s because it symbolizes a new beginning, a fresh start and there is so much unknown when looking into a full ‘new year’ that it is very exciting for me to imagine the possibilities. I know that once the December days rush forward I will be doing more and more of this reflecting but it is already coming upon me that this year God has called me close to Him like a Father calling a child out of danger’s way, “Come here, hold on to Me, don’t go out there on your own for you’ll get hurt.”
The reason’s for His need to hold me so close I can only speculate and presume I know…but I don’t. Not really, and maybe that is a good thing. 😉
Today I had the great pleasure of praying with my prayer partner (whom I wrote about at the end of the book). He is an 85 year old retired minister. Today he said he knew why God called us together to be friends…because we are of the same temperament. The Holy Spirit is so alive when we are praying together. It is truly a gift. I told him about another ‘strange’ thing that was brought to my attention this morning before we met. Recently, we had acquired a generator to put with our house so that the next time we get a hurricane we can have electricity! This thing is amazing and there is no doubt we’ll become Hotel Deitz if and when that time comes. 😉 And the reason why we got it to begin with was really out of the blue and just a ‘fluke’ thing…but here we are, with this weird but nice ‘gift’ and then we had to get our back yard dug up for gas, etc. Well, when the gas guy came yesterday he went up in our attic and found that our house was ‘against code’ with the heater and gas lines and in fact DANGEROUS. The previous owner had done some things that were not legal and the gas guy turned off the gas to the heater because he was afraid of a fire breaking out. Why the inspector didn’t see this when we bought the house…is in question. So today we had to have an AC/Heater guy come in and sure enough he found the same thing, letting me know that once winter came it wasn’t long before the house could BLOW. Yes, he said, ‘blow’…that is exactly what the flight attendant said about the plain ‘it cold BLOW’. What is up with me and ‘blowing up?’. He said it was shocking that we were here last winter and did not have a house fire or sick from the carbon monoxide that has been leaked in the attic. If we did not get that generator we would have never found this potential danger.
🙁
At any rate, we are getting it fixed…it’s about to be cold here and we won’t have heat because we are not legally allowed to turn it back on until they come to fix it (nor do I want to do it illegally and BLOW up.) But I relayed this information to my prayer partner and he said, “Well, what an adventure you are on…it’s obvious there is still something God is making sure you accomplish on this earth.”
Hmmm… I can’t I just do whatever it is without all of the Rader’s of the Lost Ark drama???
Praise God He has me holding on to His side for I’m holding on TIGHT.
Blessings
Shannon
