“Oh my! I just love the Communion of Saints!” Ms. “M” declared every few minutes within the 1.5 hour impromptu meeting this morning at the Chancery.  She has worked for 35 years at the Chancery and has been there for 5 Bishops and 5 Popes.  She is in charge of the media communications and runs the radio programs put on by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Miguel Prats, Fr. Gavin Vaverek and myself were at the Chancery to meet with Auxiliary Bishop Fiorenza about the Maria Goretti Network.

After an amazing meeting with Bishop Fiorenza, who was impressed and stands behind the Maria Goretti Network, we were in the lobby when Miguel asked if Ms. “M” was available.  He had left a message with her before but hadn’t heard back.  According to Ms. “M” the community of saints took over because even though she had a meeting she had a few minutes to come up and see us and in this time she made it known she was waiting for a Dr. “C” whom Fr. Gavin happened to be good friends with so Ms. “M” insisted our cause was too important to ignore and we needed to stay and meet.

From this point we gathered in the small recording studio and once Dr. C arrived and saw Fr. Gaven it was like a family reunion.  With one conversation jumping to another we spoke about the issue of abuse and the need for the awareness and programs such as the Maria Goretti Network needed at every parish.  It was an unmistakable moment of God ‘SHOWING UP’ and as Ms. M calls it ‘the communion of saints’ making things happen.

Once the conversation trailed off into commonalities names began to pop up and the 6 degrees of separation began to take effect.  Ms. M clapped her hands and declared “I just love the communion of saints!  If there is one thing I know after living this long life is that God puts you where he wants you when he wants you there.” (Paraphrased as I didn’t record her but that is very close to what she said!) 🙂

For me, this ‘chance’ meeting at the ‘chance’ery (ha ha) and all the prospects and opportunities born from the hour and a half goes to show that we need to make that conscious decision to move so that God can make things happen!

On a much more somber note I can’t let something I read today slide by without a mention.  In fact the more I read these stories the higher the desire I have to do something in the name of the victims who lost the battle and never had a voice or felt vindication.

Pray for the soul of Rehtaeh Parsons

This story is of a young woman in Canada who was raped by 4 men when she was 15.  One of the men took a picture of the act and blasted it through all social media channels.  The police did not take the appropriate action and the young woman was harassed and bullied literally to her death. Please pray for the soul of Rehtaeh and her family. The more we have this conversation the more it will be heard by all and prevent the loss of worthy beautiful souls.

Blessings
