Who would’ve thought that the reflection of my entire day would come down to a 9 yr old’s baseball game?  Considering I am the token Mom who knows NOTHING about the game, I’m in desperate need of some Baseball 101 training.

I’m learning.  I know now that you have to have 4 balls to walk, or that when the bases are loaded and a kid hits a home run then it’s a ‘Grand Slam’ and I learned that when sliding into home base you can’t touch the catcher or you are suspended from the game.  Well I didn’t have to worry about that last rule with Seth considering he never SLIDES because he hates to get dirty but he did run in to give us the point to tie the game (which a player then hit a GRAND SLAM to win the game).

When Seth was up to bat in the final inning I so badly wanted him to do well.  I knew that this could make or break his esteem.  He’s not the fastest, he’s not very agile but when he hits the ball and he believes he can hit the ball, he can do so well.  I’m not ashamed to say I prayed to our Blessed Mother and to his guardian angels, envisioning her covering the team with her cloak and Seth’s angels helping him out.  He didn’t have to be the best I just wanted him to feel good.  And he hit it!  At first I thought it was too high and that someone would catch it but they didn’t and they managed to advance to eventually win the close game.

And he felt good about himself and his team. 🙂

Now I feel I’ve used the ‘Momma Mary’ card.  I certainly didn’t mean to trivialize prayer, however having been a kid once myself I do realize how the littlest accomplishment (or failure) can set the tone for a kids life.  I’m proud of him and the team for doing and amazing job and supporting one another in each other’s accomplishments.

Next game is Wednesday, any idea who I should pray to in advance? 🙂

Blessings
