God was brilliant when He created the sun to rise and set giving us the physical sense of witnessing a beginning and an end. Today was a new day and my attitude is fresh. Everything was going well and everyone was getting along. We even decided to take the kids out for dinner tonight and as I was walking out the door I glanced at my purse and thought, “Oh I don’t need that. Neal has his wallet.” I followed behind Ryan, locked the bottom lock to the back door, stepped outside and shut the door. At that very moment Neal turned to me and said, “Do you have your keys?”
My hand was still resting on the door knob. “No,” I said and hesitated… “You are driving don’t you have yours?”
Well, here is the deal, I was parked behind Neal so he decided not to bring his keys out because he figured I would bring mine. Long story short we were locked out…without a spare key to save us outside…and my in-laws that do have a key are out of town. We proceeded to check every window and of course they were all locked!
Dumbfounded, Neal and I stood and stared at each other and started to laugh. I mean, really, how is it we got in this predicament? Neal had his wallet and a spare key to my car so we decided to go ahead and grab a bit to eat before tackling getting into the house. On our return we called a friend that lives close by who must have some secretive past in thievery because he showed up with some pretty precarious tools and before I knew it he had unlocked our back door. 🙂
When we got inside Seth turned to me and said, “It’s lucky we believe in God or we would’ve never gotten in the house!” Puzzled, I asked him why that would be. He said, “Mom, because I was praying the whole time that God would get us in the house because I have to feed my hamster! And if I didn’t pray then God would never know to answer my prayers and we would’ve never gotten inside.”
Now, you and I both know that regardless of us believing in His power I’m sure we would’ve gotten into the house…however, I thought this was a neat lesson for Seth to respect the power of prayer. I did say that God listens to everyone’s cry for help, even if they aren’t sending it up in ‘prayer form’…He created us all and He loves us all just the same but He was obviously listening to Seth closely because we didn’t have to pay anything to get back in the house! Ha! 😉
Neal and I learned our lesson to get more keys made! But it was good to have a laugh.
Tomorrow morning I leave for New Orleans for Steubenville On the Bayou. Pray for me and I will pray for all of you. If I end up with access to a computer I’ll blog each day as normal…if I can’t then I’ll catch up on Sunday evening.
Blessings!
