One of the aspects of my ministry I enjoy most is witnessing someone else ‘get it’.  At one point, in the beginning when I was first called into youth ministry, I used to think I was going to write a book all about people’s experiences of ‘getting it’…realizing that God has His hand in our business whether we like it or not and eventually, once we get over our self and lose the need to ‘control’ then God takes off and His plan for our life begins to unfold at rapid speed (because I think He is needing to catch up for all the time we spent taking detours!).

This afternoon I had the privilege of sitting with someone who needed to discuss a very important matter and she   needed help to discern what her role, or next step, was in this situation.  As she laid the story out for me I prayed God would give me His divine insight on how to minister to her through the Holy Spirit.  It didn’t take long for me to realize the answer was obvious that God needed her to step outside of a comfort zone she’d hidden in for quite sometime but she needed to come out of that false sense of comfort for the betterment of not only herself but many others. It was clear that the enemy was using fear to hold her back.

I read her a Bible verse that came to mind and right away she nodded her head in amazement.  “Yep, that’s my final confirmation.  I told God to give me something solid so that I could feel peace about doing this and what you gave me is as if He is speaking directly to me.”

In five minutes of her ‘getting it’ we were able to unfold this path like unrolling the plans to a new building.  Recognizing the amount of good that would come from this next step didn’t take away the nerves of having to step outside of the box…but ‘getting it’ gave her the strength and power she needed to move forward.

Listening to her and witnessing this revelation strengthened my personal resolve to do what I know God is calling me to do for the ministry.  On both ends He gave us courage, strength and renewed perseverance.

I’m glad I said ‘YES’ to ‘showing up’ for her today!  What a gift!

Blessings
