If anyone knows of a Reality TV producer that is looking for a subject that could give him/her one crazy show, send them my way.
Today was the parish staff Christmas party. I offered to host it for the first time this year because I love to throw a good party. 🙂 In all honesty, I do love to have people over. Not to show anything off (trust me, even when we lived in 1000 sq ft we held gatherings at our house) but to make sure people get together.
The annual parish staff Christmas party is always a hoot because we do an ornament exchange and it can get pretty ugly. I was looking forward to having everyone under one roof (because we all work such crazy hours) and enjoying this day. It was going well at least the first 10 minutes into it…until one of our beloved tripped heading into my dreaded and unfinished office. She didn’t see that there was a step down so she went head first and hit the corner of our metal filing cabinet (that would not have been there had I had my new desk by now! 🙁 )! By this time everyone had shown up and the house was full of many oblivious to what was going on. They were asking me for this and that and at the same time I had others making sure I knew of the dire predicament in the office.
*sigh*
I felt so awful for her!!!! And so guilty. 🙁 Finally she relented to go to a minor ER and within an hour and a half she was back with 3 staples in her head. 🙁
Did I say how bad I feel???
I offered her anything in my house. It’s all hers. Ha! 😉 Poor thing. And then I had others telling me “You should put up signs “Watch Your Step” around all of these doorways.” WHAT??? Really? Do I need to do that?
Sorry…
Need less to say, it was a tad stressful. But the ornament exchange went under way, with not as much ‘ferocity’ as usual but it was still fun.
Funny, to end the day I received a letter from my therapist that I saw a few weeks ago. I want to share with you a bit of what she had to say:
“Being a wife and mother are probably the biggest challenges in a woman’s life. Years later, you most likely will be blessed with grandchildren, which is a joyful challenge and privilege. Balancing ourselves, our family, work, spiritual life, interests, friends and so on is key to serenity. My Christmas wish for you is serenity. It’s not a destination, it’s a journey that we all need to work on.”

Memorial of St. John of the Cross,
priest and doctor of the Church
Readings: Zep 3:1-2, 9-13; Mt 21:28-32
When the just cry out, the LORD hears them,
and from all their distress he rescues them.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
Ps 34:18-19
At the end of his life, St. John of the Cross loved to repeat
that we will be judged on love. What is necessary even
today, indeed, especially in this our epoch marked by so many
human and spiritual challenges, is for Christians to proclaim
with their works the merciful love of God! Every baptized person
must “live the Gospel.” In fact, many people who do not
welcome Christ and his exigent teachings easily are nevertheless
sensitive to the witness of those who communicate his
message through the concrete witness of charity.
Address to Members of the Italian
