My boys with the Distefano boys
My boys with the Distefano boys

Yes, this is what MY children declared when asked to take this picture…because they knew I wanted it for the ‘blog’.  🙂

Despite the ‘Mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, STOP SETH, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, DO YOU KNOW WHERE THAT IS?  WHERE ARE WE GOING?  ARE YOU SURE YOU KNOW WHERE WE ARE?  WHEN WILL WE GET THERE?  CAN YOU FIND IT? mom, mom, mom, mom, mom….”

We had a pleasant day. 🙂

This morning we paid an atrocious bill for breakfast in the Holiday Inn and ate the equivalent of one kids plate.  Later we made our way to Pflugerville, Tx to visit my dear friend, Clarissa and her three GORGEOUS little guys and their sweet little dog, Chelsea.  Once Ryan could get over screaming like a girl running from the ferocious little bundle of terror we had a SMACK DOWN LIVE with all five boys doing what they do best BEING B O Y S.

Once we left Pflugerville we made our way to Barton Creek so the boys could take a dip in the Barton Spring pool.  It was then that Lindsay and I found about 45 minutes of ‘silence’.  I heard God in this silence…he said, ‘be still…for they will soon come back.’  🙂

Sure enough, God was right and they were done jumping off the diving board in the lifegaurded area of the pool.  They wanted to go over to the free side of Barton Springs where there was a current that appeared to be more fun.  Lindsay and I had set up shop on the grassy side of the pool and still had to walk around the entire length of the giant pool to get to where we needed to be to Exit.  Because the boys didn’t have their shoes on I told them to swim across the pool to the other side to wait for us.  Ryan didn’t think he could make the swim so he walked with Lindsay and I around.  When we got to the other side Seth was nowhere to be found.  My heart began to pick up pace.  Before going into full panic we walked up the stairs thinking Seth was waiting closer to the park area.  However, when we walked up the stairs there was no Seth.

“Lindsay stay here, look for Seth in the pool area.  I can’t believe he walked on without us.  This is not funny,” I said in a panic already scanning the crowd ahead of me looking for my little boy.  He was not there.  “Hail Mary, full of grace, oh blessed Mother please keep him safe…please be with him.” I prayed and begged as I got closer and closer to the public side of the Barton Spring.  There was no feeling in my chest just a thick mass that felt like cement settling around my heart making it harder and harder to breathe.

Laughter drifted up from the natural spring and there I saw Seth floating down on his bottom, the current pushing him into the shallow end of the public pool.  Do I cry?  Do I sigh with relief?  Do I get angry?  Do I snatch him out of the pool and demand to know why he didn’t wait?  Paralyzed by the flood of emotion I sat down on the stone steps and called Lindsay to let her know I found him.  Seth looked up at me then with his big, goofy smile and waved.

Thank you Mary.

Once I calmed down and watched my boys playing together, getting along and having a good time a thought came to me.   Maybe what I felt in that brief moment of having ‘lost’ Seth, (though I knew where he was supposed to be and that he couldn’t have gone far) that maybe God feels the same panic when we make the choice to walk away from Him, if even for a brief moment.

It makes sense as God never leaves us, it is always our decision to run off to have what we feel is ‘more fun’, or we get impatient on waiting on Him to lead us where we want to go so we go on our own without His supervision regardless of God’s better judgment.

I learned a great deal today.  I kid about how my kids are B O Y S and can get under my skin but I love them dearly and would hear “Mom, mom, mom, mom, mom…” a thousand times consistently if it means I get to hug them closely at the end of the day.
