Songs speak to my soul and give me peace and comfort. My earliest memory is being around three years old and my Papa bought me a little rocking chair that had a music box attached to the back of the leg so every time you rocked back it would wind it up and play a melody. My parents would find me at the crack of dawn sucking on my thumb and rocking in that rocking chair. As I grew older I graduated to listening to music on the radio and rocking in our La Z Boy rocker. When Walk Man’s were created I was in heaven because the music felt as if it was within me. The older I got the more my mind would sore beyond the lyrics and played out the dreams and fantasies that carried me away from my existing reality.

I didn’t give up the rocking chair addiction until I was in my thirties. Neal and I sold the glider we had used for the boys which also served as my occasional stress release. I would rock a child and allow my mind to escape. I never thought I’d be able to survive without the comfort of a rocking chair and music but as I began to heal from within I no longer needed the escape from reality.

However, music still speaks to my spirit in various ways. This is why you’ll notice I share many songs and lyrics because I assume if it speaks to me it just might speak to someone else out there. And lately the song that has grabbed me is BELIEVER by Imagine Dragons. At first I loved simply the beat… as I began to really listen it grabbed me in and I had to know exactly what he was saying. I was stunned. How poetically he can capture many of our thoughts. I’d certainly like to ask him more about the thought behind the lyric but I doubt that will ever happen. 😉

Here is a YouTube video of the song without lyrics. Below it I am embedding the link to the lyrics and the song. ENJOY.
