The circumstance is never  so dire that you can’t find a flower among the thorns.

 flower among thorns

This weekend I’ve been given the gift of reveling in my son, Ryan’s, gift in acting and seeing him blossom into a fine young man.

I’ve had conversations with Seth and Ryan about their future goals to be a research doctor (Ryan) and engineer (Seth).  I’ve encouraged them and discussed the many opportunities life has to offer.  I have not dwelled upon what is to come for me in my journey these next few days.  I have embraced the flowers among the thorns.

Tonight, after getting the family prepared for my leave of absence with detailed ‘itinerary’ for the boys and directions for Neal, we sat outside, had dinner as a family in this fine weather (the few days of the year we’ll be gifted with such weather) and listened to music.

My heart is not heavy, it is hopeful.  I look forward to the journey with Heather and my nephew.  I will take it moment by moment, gift by gift and remember to respond and not react.

As Neal and I listened to music I tried to come up with the perfect sound track to this upcoming journey.  I love music.  I used to listen to it and rock in a rocking chair, tuning the world out and allowing my mind to wander and contemplate all I held inside.  Music was my release.  Music takes me back to sights, smells, sounds, feelings, emotions.

What song would you put to this occasion?  Or what song would you put to your life right now?  I’d love to know either answer! 🙂

Blessings
