A day can and will be any ordinary day unless we receive the giving moment (or on some extraordinary days – moments).
Today I spent all day putting up Christmas decorations which is a mundane task. All day as I went through the motions I kept coming back to the thought ‘How in the world will I get a ‘Just Show Up’ moment from this?’. When the task was done (and the house suddenly looked bleak and bare) I realized I hadn’t checked my email all day.
There it was, in the form of a very brief email. The moment that God showed up through a friend. In this brief moment I was given encouragement, validation and an idea.
No day is ordinary unless you overlook and ignore the giving moment (or moments). The moment can be in an email or during prayer. It can be a big event, but it doesn’t have to be. It might be a word spoken or unexpected smile, or a good cry that arises out of nowhere.
My day was mundane. There isn’t anything I can say about the day in particular that is exciting, yet once I received this email it spread warmth through the entire day.
Sometimes God just shows up in a whisper but be ready to hear it.
Then the LORD said: Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD;the LORD will pass by. There was a strong and violent wind rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD—but the LORD was not in the wind; after the wind, an earthquake—but the LORD was not in the earthquake; after the earthquake, fire—but the LORD was not in the fire; after the fire, a light silent sound.
When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. A voice said to him, Why are you here, Elijah?
