The day was planned out by the hour. I was going to write from 8:30-10 and then pick up Ryan’s cookie cake and balloons to surprise him when my parents brought the kids home roughly around 11. Or so I assumed.
At 7:45 I received a text that they were off the boat and getting the car. I had a little over an hour to try and get the cookie cake and everything ready! And I didn’t get to write. 🙁 I texted my mom and begged her to figure out something to do to prolong their arrival. Thankfully they figured something out so now I had till 10.
With a one stop shop at HEB I managed to get the cake early and everything else plus make it home 10 minutes before 10.
At first he was like ‘Mom, really? It’s just getting into a high school.’ (Ugh, teens…) and then I made him read the award. Finally, I saw the smile that told me he felt good about all the stress and hard work he endured to get in that 3%.

It was so good to see my kids that I decided to put aside any plans and be present to them and their stories. Irony of this is that they are teenagers and whereas before when they were younger I would have heard countless stories for hours and now I heard ‘It was fun.’ Once my parents started showing pictures and talking then the kids gathered around and finally divulged more.

Oh a weight has been lifted and it feels so good. Even though my best laid plans were thwarted I still finished the book. Nothing better than going with the flow and still getting things done. 😉
I leave you with this final picture taken of the day. A ‘cowboy’ dancing with a Massage Heights sign… nothing says going with the flow than that! Makes me think of Pretty Woman “What’s YOUR dream?!” 😀 Hopefully a bit more than that but hey, he’s making money.
