Yesterday was a blessing to take the ‘day off’ and hang out with my family.  I actually didn’t write the post until I woke up this morning so I never went against my word.  I woke up at 6:30am with a phone call from Seth to pick him and his 3 other friends up from the YMCA lock-in.  When I arrived all of the chaperones hemmed and hawed about how polite and well-behaved our boys were.  The ‘St. Martha Crew’ they were nick-named and I left feeling a sense of pride for my son and his friends.

While Seth slept most of the afternoon I took Ryan and his ‘girl’friend (they won’t say they are ‘girlfriend/boyfriend’ but they have been close friends since 5th grade) to the local production of Wizard of Oz put on by Centre Stage.  It didn’t take long for me to see where I fit in this picture though.

You don’t see me, right?  Exactly.  Here I am taking the day ‘off’ and somehow I’m booted to the side.  At first it was supposed to be myself, Ryan and Seth.  Then Ryan asked, “Can Olivia come with us?”  I wasn’t going to say no and once I saw that Seth wouldn’t last five minutes awake in a dark theater I took on the roll of ‘taxi driver’/chaperone.  The ultimate kicker was purchasing tickets and finding out we were late so the only spots they had left were 2 together in the front and 1 in the back.  Take a look at that picture again, you do the math. 😉

The show was lovely and the kids did a great job.  Afterward Olivia invited Ryan over to her house to hang out with her and her parents and have pizza.  Neal and I already had plans with friends to go to dinner so this ‘family day’ drew quickly to an end.

However, I did stay off the technical gadgets yesterday and most of today I might add.  We made up for family time by taking the boys to see ‘Iron Man 3’ this afternoon.

Bad idea on opening weekend.  We were an hour early and still had to sit 4 rows from the screen.  Great movie but I left with a queezy stomach. 🙁

This weekend as an overall has been a much needed break from the ‘crazy’ I normally call my days.  There were no major expectations, chance meetings, deep conversations or anxious set backs.  Just three normal, beautiful days. Could it be God ‘showing up’ in the calm before the storm?  I know that if there is a ‘storm’ a brewing then God will most definitely equip me with what I’ll need.  No, I’d like to think God was simple in His approach and showing up in the calm because I needed it to refuel.  I ‘showed up’ and obeyed.   😉

Is life getting hectic, full of deadlines, serious with family issues or friend drama?  Maybe take some time, whatever you feel God is giving you to manage, to take a day off and feel Him in the calm.  Rejuvenate.  Come back to peace.

Blessings
