Don’t we all desire to be ‘in the know’?  Despite the curiosity and blatant nosiness there are many reasons we feel more secure when we KNOW what’s going on.

When we have all the facts and all of the information then we feel in control. Even the simplest kink in understanding can throw the most put together person into a tizzy of uncertainty. Like this afternoon with my son, Ryan. I told him this morning we would go after school to get his allergy shots. He said, “ok.”

So, after school, we drove over to the doctor’s office, signed in and waited. Finally his name was called. We go through the same routine every month that we’ve been through for the past year and a half and the nurse asks, “Do you have a sore throat, sneezing, drainage?”

Her questions get to me every time because those are the symptoms of having allergies. YES Ryan has these symptoms which is why we are getting the shots!  But I digress… Ryan, as always, says ‘yes’ so she looks at me and I look at her as if to say, “What do you expect?!”

Then she says, “Do you have coughing or shortness of breath?”

Normally at this point he would say ‘no’ but he said, “Yes.”  I had heard him cough up the phlegm (sorry if that is bothersome to read) but the shortness of breath I wasn’t AWARE of… And quite frankly, couldn’t tell. But because he said it (and I don’t doubt him just wish I KNEW) he couldn’t get the shots.  So we waisted 30 minutes. I let it go ( though it was frustrating).

Once in the car my calendar dinged  to remind me that Ryan had piano rehearsal for his upcoming recital.  “Ugh!” he groaned when I reminded him, put out and frustrated. “I’m not ready and I didn’t know,” he whined.   So I suppose at that point we were in the same spot. Neither of us in the ‘know’ and consequently frustrated.

Sitting and waiting for Ryan to be done with rehearsal I listened to a short talk I gave at my home parish on April 9th. The musician that evening recorded it and recently sent it to me.  What is interesting is I’d forgotten what I’d said, remembering, though, that evening I felt what God gave me to say was for me just as much, if not more, than for everyone else present.

And wouldn’t you know it focused on knowing God, knowing He is with is at all times therefore remaining secure in all things because in trusting God and believing in Him we remain ‘in the know’?

His timing is always the best. 😉
