The first thing I did wrong on this holiday was to submit to the request of my boys to take them to see a movie when I’d been watching on the news how many were spending this ‘national day off’ doing service for others.  If I were more on the ball as a ‘perfect’ mother (ha ha ha) I might have planned some excursion to lend a hand to our neighbor.  Unfortunately, that did not cross my mind when planning for the day with the boys home – mainly because I failed to realize they had the day OFF until this weekend!  😉  (I wish I could say I would be ‘that’ mom that would have thought of something clever…maybe now that I know it IS clever, maybe next year I’ll do that.  As my father says, ‘Stupid people don’t know they are stupid.’…same goes for all the things we hear about and think ‘I should do something like that.’   You don’t because you didn’t think to until you heard about it.  Follow me? 🙂  )

Second thing I did wrong today was allow the boys to choose The Green Hornet over Yogi Bear.  The movie wasn’t all that bad, except the foul language that was from beginning to end and all of the useless ‘action’…at first it was pretty tame but toward the end of the movie it truly was over the top.  My opinion?  Wait for DVD and then screen it yourself or let it be truly ‘PG-13’.

What I did notice when I was watching the 30 minutes of previews before the actual movie began is that 75% of the movies previewed had something to do with the world ending in destruction.  It dawned on me how the film industry is obsessed with the imminent end and destruction of our earth, and our lives.  Being that the film industry tends to have the biggest voice in shouting political opinions (yet holds the smallest population at least in the US) I’d say this ratio of what is coming out of Hollywood speaks volumes.

It is loud and clear that they want the world to be green and we need to fear global warming.  However, it  is sad this loud ‘voice’ doesn’t turn up the volume when it comes to the true distruction that is being done within our spirit.  For instance, this week (just like any other week) I have heard more personal stories of the abuse that is taking place within families and done to little children yet when asked to confront this evil head on people get frozen in the fear of confrontation.  The reason why this sort of true evil can destruct so many lives is because it plays on the comfort of the person causing them to think twice before rattling the hornets nest and releasing the mass of lies that is breeding inside.

If we saw more movies that depicted the courage and strength of standing up against the flow of complacency, for instance, like the movie PRECIOUS, or even a family movie like FLIPPED (out on DVD, highly recommended) we might see the world begin to change.

God showed up in this bit of clarity for me today.  I pray He does for you as well.

Blessings
