Hero #1 IS a hero and after watching the 20/20 special on Aaron Fisher (aka: Sandusky’s Victim #1) I applauded when the host, Chris Cuomo declared (paraphrased) ‘Aaron is not to be known as victim #1, he is HERO #1’. AMEN! Because when Aaron was 16 years old he found the courage to TELL his mom the TRUTH of the abuse and together they went to the principal of the school.
Unfortunately the principal told them to ‘go home and think about it’ instead of calling the police herself. Thankfully Aaron’s mom is no fool and took no time in making the call to police. Now what hit home for me in the story was when we find out that Aaron was told by detectives they ‘needed more victims to make a case against Sandusky’. Aaron said he thought “What? Having him do this to me isn’t enough? I’m not good enough to take him down?”

I remember feeling that very same way when I went to the authorities. I was told the very same thing…’We need more victims’ to make a solid case.’ As it goes rarely are you the first victim. With Hero #1, 7 more victims came forward…in my personal case 2 more came forward and 1 more almost did but backed out. My case didn’t end as well as Hero #1’s but I feel the victory in every case I hear about that victims come forward and take a stand.
THANK YOU, Aaron Fisher…you are a HERO to many!
Also, I have to share about another HERO to those who have been enslaved by sex trafficking. I won’t give her name but she goes by ‘Beloved Freedom Fighter’…I heard her speak at a Kids in Crisis luncheon this past week. She is a survivor of sex trafficking and has made it her mission to FREE others who have been entangled in this ugly national crisis.
Please visit her blog: http://embraceyourfreedom.wordpress.com/
Give her a shout out of love and encouragement. 🙂
To see these two survivors SPEAK OUT is so encouraging and offers HOPE to so many who struggle to find their worth.
I’m invigorated and elated to go forth with this amazing week I have in store to tape the AUDIO version of EXPOSED and to speak out on Sexual Abuse at the University of Dallas Ministry Conference this weekend! I’m humbled by the opportunity yet fired up to encourage others to SPEAK OUT and be FREE!
Blessings
Shannon
