My boys amaze me daily. They each have these qualities about them that bring me to wonder and awe. Seth, for instance, this weekend made friends with these two women who worked for the resort.

Robin, Seth and Martha

Robin and Martha were in charge of the Monarch room where we were spoiled with the blessing of getting snacks, drinks and hot appetizers at any time during the day and night. Seth found this concept exciting, along with the ‘freedom’ he had to be independent around the resort. On our first morning there Seth was up literally at the crack of dawn and wanted to see what they offered for breakfast. It didn’t take Seth long to get these ladies to sit down with him, learn about their lives and see them for the beautiful women they are.

I’d like to think he got that from me. 😉 What I love most about Seth’s gift in seeing people for the blessing they are is it was in great contrast to what I observed elsewhere at the resort. Don’t get me wrong, this is our 3rd year that we’ve been blessed to come to this resort for Labor Day weekend and my birthday, every time we’ve come it’s been a blast to be with our-friends and just chill. The difference this year is I had more time to observe whereas in other years our group stuck together. In my observation and shameless ease dropping at the pool, I saw a lot of pretense, heard of unnecessary dramas between families who were strangers to one another, each feeling they were more entitled than the other.
At one point my friend and I were sitting in these lounge chairs placed in the pool so we could cool off, we were in the middle of a conversation and a woman from one of the situations mentioned above walked in-between my friend and I. She could have gone around, being there wasn’t much space between us to begin with, she didn’t say ‘excuse me’, nothing. When she came back through she did it again! I don’t know if she regarded us as ‘less than’ so she didn’t see the need to put herself out by walking around us, or if she simply was never taught manners. The blatant rudeness was crazy. Like I said, unnecessary drama…we looked at each other wide eyed and let it go.

Witnessing people putting others ‘in their place’ was disheartening and thus a blessing to see I thankfully have raised my kids to appreciate and respect everyone.

Which is why it’s appropriate to wish EVERYONE a happy Labor Day! Take a break and relax. You deserve it. No matter what you do daily from being a student, a mom, in the office or you run the entire company, you have labored and you deserve a break! And to all of you who are working to serve us on Labor Day, God Bless you! I pray you get a break tomorrow!

Blessings
