John316

Men and women, young and old, Christian, Orthodox, Jew, Atheist alike most recognize and recall John 3:16 regardless of their belief.

Why?  Good question and one that might seem to be a complex answer but in actuality might be very simple.

We all want to be ‘the one’, the beloved, the one whom someone would lay down their life or to give of their only son so we could live forever.  We want to be important and considered worthy enough to exist eternally.

Regardless if John 3:16 is a well versed fiction statement, or what is to hope for, or the promise in which we focus and live out our daily lives we can relate to the need.

Today in Easter Mass we read from the Gospel of John and Fr. Borski pointed out this one verse:

So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.  (taken from John 20:1-9)

risen

The ‘other disciple’ was John and Fr. made the comment that being that this account was written by John of course he would claim he ran faster.  😉  We all laughed and I thought how appropriate a statement to make when we all want to be ‘the one’, the one who saw first, the one who was loved the most, the one who could do best, the one.  However, Fr. Borski went on to say that in the Gospel of John he refers to himself as ‘the one whom Jesus loved’ and in actuality we may all insert ourselves into the scripture for we, individually, are the ‘one’ whom Jesus loved.

Enjoy your Easter today with family and friends and remember you are the one. 😉

Blessings
