“Lord, I pray today is another day to ‘get things done’ but also take this gift of a leisure day and make the most of it. It’s not often we get this time off and I don’t want to waste it.” I wrote this at 8:15am this morning during my prayer time…
God has a sense of humor and now I understand clearer the term “watch what you pray for”. I’ve been in sweats, sweatshirt and slippers all day but it was as if some odd energy took possession of my body and I haven’t stopped ‘organizing’ and ‘doing’ till this very moment. I like things to be in their placed and picked up but this was ridiculous. I juggled three projects at one time all day.
Some crosses needed to be hung that have been waiting for me to put nail to wall for a month but as I went to the garage to get the hammer I stopped in kitchen at the desk area to search for nails in the drawers and began to clean out the entire area!
Once that was clean and organized I walked back through the hallway where I was supposed to hang the crosses and saw some stray socks my son had so wonderfully discarded which made me pick them up and take them into the laundry room. When I was in the laundry room I turned to walk out and saw the mess the pantry was in and decided it needed to be organized.

During the process of cleaning out the pantry I saw the ironing board and remembered I had some clothes I wanted ironed that were hanging on my chair in the bedroom. I’m sure you can guess what I did next….yes I went and ironed so I wouldn’t forget to get it done! 😉

I won’t bore you with the entire day but I felt like the mouse in the children’s book “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”. I loved reading this story to my kids probably because I relate to being easily distracted. Eventually I did hang the crosses and return the hammer to the garage. The pantry and desk area are now organized and clean (we’ll see how long that lasts) and in the process my kids joined in and found some neat ‘treasures’ they had no idea we had all this time.
The best part about this day is the weird psychological cleansing I get from de-cluttering and getting organized. Though I physically cleaned and cleared out areas in my home I recognize the effort it takes for us to ‘clean out’ all of the trash inside of us that keeps us from ‘starting’ the day and being ‘great’. There is a New Year’s resolution – ‘dumping’ the psychological trash in prayer, giving it to God to do away with to be lighter, organized and ready to tackle whatever is to come.
I should tackle the kitchen catch-all cabinets…nah, I need to save something for next year! 😉
Blessings
Shannon
